Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice-president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected the city's district attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General for California. Harris was elected again in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for reforms to healthcare and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She is best known for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
